These days, businesses are doing more and more to reward their employees and their customers alike. For the most part, companies have taken notice that in difficult economic times, people need just a little bit of extra motivation to do things that they might have otherwise done. For that reason, more employee rewards programs have come to prominence.
Today’s business world has seen its fair share of changes. Companies have had to cut staff and in many cases, try to get by with the same level of productivity and fewer people to do it. This can lead to a severely disgruntled workforce if you are not careful. Managers seem to have taken notice, though, at least in some regard. What an employee recognition program does, in effect, is make sure that people know just how appreciated their efforts are.
This is one of those small and important changes in the business world of today that is helping to push some businesses forward, while others slide backwards. It is no secret that happier employees do better work. Having a happy workforce is about much more than just saying hello in the morning as a boss, though. It’s about making sure that they have no doubt about their role and their importance as a piece of the business plan.

While you are right on the mark with employee recognition, there is also another way that creates a huge incentive for employees. Rewarding employees with a little extra pay for increasing productivity is actually cost effective.
As a manager at a franchise of a major fast food chain I know that this works. It costs us almost nothing to make someone employee of the month, but it makes these kids work harder.
I was starting to get disgruntled at work. But I kept working hard. Then last month I got a nice plaque acknowledging my hard work. It was enough to get me “re-gruntled.”
